Monday Dog 1: Ruby

I'm starting with dog records for Monday dogs. Here's the first one:

Name: Ruby
Nickname(s):
1. The Rubsters
2. Rubes
3. Rudy
Distinguishing Features:
1. Unruly fur which refuses to look neat no matter how much the HBs brush it.
2. Pink fur on her paws
Annoying Habits:
1. Chewing and licking at her paws. She does this for hours. It sounds disgusting even to me and I like disgusting things. It's why her paws are pink.
2. Pushing her bum against the HBs (everyone knows the way to make yourself look cute is to lay your head gently in the HBs laps)
3. Taking ages on the lead. The HB has to stay behind her to make sure she keeps moving.
Best Friend:
Probably Lily. They're like a couple of rugby girls together, lots of rowdy shoulder barging and growling. I'm called to intervene at times - 'ladies, please - really.'
Doesn't Like:
Being brushed too hard.
Car Position:
Ruby sits in the boot with the riff raff, or sometimes on the back seat with the harness. She can't be trusted in the front and her hips are way too big for the crate. She doesn't jump out until she's asked which is good.
Redeeming Features:
1. Stays with the pack
2. Comes when called
3. Good with strange dogs
4. Sociable
5. Easy Going
Other General Info:
Ruby comes into my house, sleeps in my bed, drinks out of my water bowl and jumps on my sofa. All of this is ok most of the time, but sometimes she goes too far and has to be reminded that it is my house. Goldilocks.

Upcoming Features

I'm thinking that I may have kept the pack quiet from my blog for long enough.

Please watch out for my new regular feature: PACK PROFILES. Fairly regularly (don't hassle me I'm a busy dog) I will post a profile of the different dogs in my pack. I'll start with Monday dogs and make my way through the week.

I'm sure the whole thing will be entirely boring as none of them are as interesting as me, but at least when I mention how irritating Pip Squeak is (or whatever) you will know who I'm on about.

Besides, you have to move with the times. Pack Profiles is my new upcoming feature - stay tuned folks.

I'll even throw in a photo.

Back to Work

Looks like autumn is here - hello puddles, where were you when I needed you? No good turning up when the sun's gone in and I'm not thirsty anymore is it?

It was back with the pack yesterday and today. I'd had a brilliant break with Sarah and Tim.  God only knows where my HB pack went to: they get lost so much it's bewildering and beyond my concern.

I paid my own way, as always, by ridding them of their foxes. Disturbing animals (although they do make very stinky poo which is excellent for rubbing into the shoulders).

I also chased the rabbits off. Tim and Sarah seemed pleased with this, muttering something about, 'nibbling at the veggies', whatever that means.

I can forget about all those heady days now though as it's back to work. Luckily the rabble don't seem to be too disorganised and fell into line fairly easily. Pip Squeak, The Kimsters and Bell Bells didn't require any barking at. Lil Spills seems to have got a little above her station, (perhaps inviting her to stay wasn't a good plan after all), but we had an excellent game of chase in The Rubster's absence, so that was good fun. Fluffy White Cloud - well he was just the same as always (beyond hope) and I'm yet to catch up with the other pack members until next week.

Highlight of today was my heroic leap from the car window (it was stationery) after a cat. Without any thought for my own safety I launched myself free and hurtled after it, through a side gate, down through a garden, over a back fence and on and on into the neighbouring garden and beyond. Lost sight and smell of the thing then heard the Mummy HB calling, so reluctantly returned. She didn't seem pleased. Ungrateful.
